Listening to Creation’s Groaning, Articulating our Longings for a New Reality
Brainstorming sustainable, community-engaged, and timely Advent practices for our communities

Advent, as we all know, is not just a looking forward to the birth of the baby Jesus, but anxiously anticipating God’s promise to restore all things in and through Christ.
Invitation to spiritual practice leading up to our call:
I invite you to spend the next month listening to yearnings, angsts, and longings for a different reality, one that reflects the life and liberation and love of Christ that transforms what in our lives and our communities does not yet reflect God’s promised reign. Listen to your own holy discontent, and to young people, and elders, the voices you have access to nearby and far away, the voices of non-human kindred in God’s Creation. I invite you to keep a journal or running list of these somewhere you can access and include in your prayers.
When we gather, we’ll brainstorm what a holy Advent can look like that names and makes space for these groanings of Creation and our neighbors, and I hope give us all ideas for observing Advent this year.
